Mr.'Jas. Baillie, who recently sold his [ business hero, is. about to leave our midst after a very lengthy residence. Mr. Baillie took a prominent part in public matters, and was. for a time Mayor of tho. town. The services which lie has rendered to tho district are to be publicly rccognised. From inquiries made all round one learns that the Christmas trade this year was quito up to the average of former years. Tile Auckland Central Mission Hand, which is at present visiting the Wairarapa, is to enliven Carterton with its presence on Sunday and Monday next. Harvesting operations are in full swing hero, and some good crops are being Veaped. .
