The magistrate said that he looked upon this offence as a very serious one. Asked if he had anything to say the accused answered, "Nothing at all," and the magistrate, after remarking on the man's air of indifference, imposed a sentence of one month's imprisonment. OTHER CASES. Robert M'Minn. charged with drunkenness, pleaded guilty, and promised to leave tho city if. given 0110 more chance. He was convicted and discharged. Three first-offending inebriates, who had spent a night in the cells, were also convicted and discharged. Another first offender' was fined 55., with the alternative of 24 hours' imprisonment, -md (wo other first offenders, who did not appear; were ordered to forfeit their bail (10s. each) or undergo 48 hours' imprisonment. Two charges against Bernard Alfred GiiYord were ineuiioned. Chief Detectivc Brobsrg stated that Gifford had taken his own life in gaol during the period of remand. An entry was accordingly made against the charges.
