Fatalities from black damp have occurred in the Wallsend Proprietary Colliery. i ■ A party of seven , were engaged inspecting the mine when, black damp rose from a fire in tho old workings. Five of the party collapsed. The other two dragged them to safety, but Baird, underground boss, and Hann, deputyunderground boss, died.
