Most of the finishes in ths running' events were close, which of course is a distinct compliment to the handicappor, Mr. R. A. Williams. Tlie dancing and piping; competitions were a feature of the gathering, th'e entries exceeding those of any previous year. Mastorton wns responsible for ft largo contingent for the (lancing, piping, running, and > field events. The entries totalled three hundred and twenty. The president (Mr. A. M'Kay, OTAKI. / The new tourist track in the Otaki Gorge, leading from The Forks to Mount Deiiuan, is being prepared. Messrs. Hambrook and Gray are doing much of the necessary work. It is hoped that a party will proceed, from hero to Greytown via this new track at an early date. Tho wild flowers on the' hills are at present a picture. The final competition, between members of tho Paraparaumu Eiflo Club has been : completed lor the Abraham Cup, a trophy that has been fired for for seven years on the understanding that, at : the end of that time, the competitor having his name inscribed the greatest number of limes is to become the possessor for all time. Mr. C. Whiting, who won tho last competition, has been successful- on all five occasions, Messrs. J. Whiting and C. Dowsett winning it once each. RONGOTEA. The breaking-up celebration in connection with the Rongotca pnblis school was held last week. . Tho t prizes were distributed by I.lrs. Bowater, and short addresses were given by the Revs. Messrs, Wilson and D. B. Forde Carlisle.
