Wood, and Miss Turner; Dunedin: Messrs. S. C. Brown, A. -Walker, P. Loganj and Gunn; Inyercaigill: Mr. H. Irwin and G. R. Whiting. The general secretary to the federation was also present. 'The'preliminary sitting was occupied with routine matters: The business. -to come-be-fore tho'conference is the consideration of suggested amendments of tho Federation's rules and those of the branch unions; also consideration of existing.awards. A number of important items will be dealt, with, including the proposed establishment of..a.;CQ-operati'vo boot factory, and the question of establishing a fighting fund fpr the purpose of taking some consolidate ed action at the next general election. A remit dealing with ont-of-work benefits to cover tho whole federation, wiir also be considered. It is stated that the out-of-work benefits at present apply to only two branches
