SHOCKING TRAGEDY AT AUCKLAND.

A shocking tragedy was enacted at Parakai,' near" Helensville, on Sunday Kuff^ttitmed , "Alt'red Albert Uash murdering-his wife by cutting her throat and then attempting suicide. The crime seems to have resulted front ieal.ousy. Mrs. Cash, who, with her husband, was conducting a boardinghouse at the Para-kai-Hot Springs, returned home after having a bath, and. went into her bedroom to dress for tea. Her husband followed 'her in the room and locked the door.* Some words arose over a letter which Cash found in the room, and in a sudden outburst of passion ho pulled from his pocket a razor, with which he ■ had previously been shaving himself, and inflicted a deep wound on the side of his ■wife's neck. He then turned the razor upon himself, but the handle broke when ho had inflicted a flesh wound: Before . ho could injure himself further the dcor was buret' open and ,he was restrained.. Mrs. Gash died half an hour latcT, but . i Cash's wound proved to be -not of a serious nature, and it is expected 1 lie will be able to attend the inquest in a week. Cash is a seafaring -man. 12 years of. age, and his wife was U. Casli v;as tradins up and down the coast for several years, and was.latterly a master in the employ of the Kaipara Steamship Companv. He left the sea about a year ago "owing to ill-health, and has since :been treated at Cambridge for consumption. He started a boardinghouse ,at •Parakai a few weeks ago.
