At present it -is not quite certain when the Strathclydo will be docked to have her new rudder fitted. The work of fitting the new rudder, and cleaning and painting tho steamer in dock, will probably occupy three or four days. ■BUNKEEING OF -SHIPS. Captain Menada, of Genoa, has invented an important appliance for coaling vessels. The inventor, who is the manager of ..the Commercial' Steamship Company, was for many years connected. with the late Count Raggio ,the principal coal importer of Italy. This connection has enabled Captain Menada to appreciate the necessity of quickly transferring coals from lighters to large vestseis. JEiis coaihandling invention consists of a lighter having a number of skeleton towers with raovablo shoots, which can be raised or lowered at will. Tho arrangement is specially designed for coaling large ships with side ports. Tho coal on board the lighter is filled into'a.truck or receptacle running in grooves up and down tho towers'. When filled, this receptacle is' raised up to the level of the shoots, and the .coals are emptied, through the shoots into the bunkers of the vessels. A lighter having fcrrr towers can work through eight shoots at a tiuie, and, therefore, into eight bunker ports. By means-of-this system . vessel:? have (say 6 "Lloyd's Weekly Summary") been coaled from one. lighter at the rate of 120 tons an hour. A number of such lighters have already been built, and have been euccessfully working in Italian and other ports. It is suggested that the system is -one which might advantageously bo introduced into this country, on tho ground that it would result in tho saving Of time and expense.

An extension of time from three to sis mouths, during which saloon and eteerago tickets will bo available for return, anplica to the Huddart-Parker Company's steamers ,qs woll - as to tho boats of tho Union Company. The concession applies to intercolonial, Island, and coastal ticketsThe Wcstport Coal Co. advice that tho steamer Roserio .may.be expected at Wellington any time now from the River Plate. The vessel comes for "bunkers," but it.is undecided at which port sho is to obtain them. Mr. T..'. R. Gamble, chicf .officer of tho Tayiuul signed off the vessel yesterday for a. ;inonlh!.i . lie

The Himitangi is expected in port to-day with a load of wool from the East Coast. Mr. Davidson, third engineer of tho Aranura, left the vessel yesterday, his place being taken by Mr. J. li.-Macrae. The barquo Ariel, now on tlie voya-gc from Liverpool ,to Wellington, has, it-is reported, . been chartered ,to load guano at Surprise Island for D.unedin, after completion of discharge here.' Arrivingjn port from Blackball yesteruay, the.Wairau remains here'until Honday. bhc then proceeds to Karamea. Tho Scales chartered steamer Clan' Maclaren is to clear Wellington, for-London and the Continent this morning. wn?;^rJ hG w rayton : Granse is Waitaxa. lor Wanganui.
