Ladrone was made favourite, but at the finish the Highden filly, Allurement, displaced him in public estimation; With a minimum of delay ihc field was dispatched, and the favourito took up the running. From a bunched „ e J,4 straight, Beacon.and Brown Trout challenged, but in the filial insli young M'Lean pushed Ladrone through, and won comfortably. Tho winner is owned and trained by Sir. P. Baldwin. He was beautifully handled, by . tho apprentice M'Lean, who has evidently a good futuro before him. It .was' an unruly field that faced, the starter in .the Tintea Handicap, ; and naturally there was a long delay at'tho postr. Warsong moved first,-.-but"Sa'u-inai soon led,'and was not'again-headed, though'_lie tired 'hadly m'tho'lastl fifty

usual dash at tho start, and seemed, to be limning wildly. Warsong finished well. The start for the Summer Handicap, which took placo in front of the stand, was a very fino one, and tho crowd showed their appreciation by applauding. North-East made the early running with Mataari, and then 'came Sandstream and Irautii together. The latter, which was a hot favourite, won very comfortably at the-finish, whilo the three horses mentioned finished in a ■line. Tho winner's performance was a very meritorious one. Whori tho candidates for the classical event mado their,appearance- in tlio birdcage: a largo crpwd assembled to see them. PenatCs, gpueared to be sore, but Polymorphous/jwdgeui;;' 'appearances, could not';,bo - inipros'ctl uoon, and liis trainer stated' tllilt ho was a better' horse than'ever. Sunburnt stripped well, and so 3jdJ)o>rest, who has filled out a lot since rkciiig at'll-iccarton. Thewhole field moved off well together, and for a furlong there, was nothing to choose between them. Next Madam Madcap rushed to the load, and Hermia followed with Sunburnt and Dearest next. The last-named got anything but a good run round tho bend, and was wide out entering tlie straight. Polymorphous got up on the rails, and put in a challengo in the straight, but nothing could extend Madam Madcap, and Polymorphous also failed to reach Hermia. Dearest.was fourth, just ahead of Suiiburiit. . '

Lady Moutoa, and Kill wo.re the pubHe fancies in the Highden Hack Handicap. They went to the front, at . the start, and led throughout, .the latter winning with a lot in hand. Gladiolo and Ahuapai -were close up. - - . ' Tho dispatch for thoAwapuni Handicap was spoilt'by. Sea Queen galloping up and-getting a flying start. Nothing apparently had a chance with her, , and she w'oii very comfortably. Boanerges was badly left, and was the last to finish. Despite her big impost, San Lass was •'the best supported in tho Hack Welter ■Handicap, and by brilliant riding S. Reid got her homo after a very pretty race. ''Bercola, with Serenity, made the running to tho turn, with Floater and San ■Lass next. The'favourite got clear at tho entrance, and in a hard finish won by half a length. The day's racing was brought to .a : finish with the Himitangi Welter'.Handicap, for which. Flingotwa? made.favourite. Tho best ho could do was' to run a good -second to Strathmoira, on whom Oliver had the mount. The latter's supnorter3 had a bad run throughout the clay, but the dividend paid in the. last event compensated them.
