Mr. Douglas Mawson, who was a member of the last Antarctic expedi-. tion, thinks there is some mistake over' Sir Ernest Shackleton's statement regarding tho proposed Antarctic expedition. Only last week ho -received . a cablo message from Sir E. Shackleton definitely stating that he,would not accompany th'o expedition, and would heartily support an Australian expedition, under any command. This was tho agreement ho made with Sir E. Shackleton when in London, Mr. Mawson: added. Sir E. Shackleton kept the expedition beforo tho scientific world in his (Mr. Mawson's) interests, thus securing the ground against foreign competition. All tho preliminary arrangements wero being made for the expedition,, which' would leavo Australia about the end of next year.
