Club. . ■ Success' in every way attended the official opening of the Port Nicholson Yacht Club, and great credit is due to the secrets ties and committee for m'aking it so. The. club could. not have wished for better weather conditions, barring the "wind, which' caino in the wrong direction, the yachts having to beat all the way to the Bay. There was a very good attendance of the public, and the afternoon tea provided was very- enjoyable. The club will proljably commence its racing season after the New Year. His Excellency Lord Islington las extended his patronage to the club, apd this, fact, in itself, will tend largely to the progress of .yachting in Wellington. , . The programme for Regatta Day. has be'on drawn .up, .the following being, a copy of it:—ln the morning there will bo ' Taces for the first, second, third, fourth and fifth-class yachts, and, in the afternoon, a general handicap race for first and second-class yachts,; also, rapes for third, fourth, and fifth-class'' yachts.' No'. i- ii6Uvso-SVill' be used by ond," and third-class'yachts, ; and 'No.' 2 course for fourth-class, yachts. Fifth-class yachts will use the Te Aro Sailing Club's course, and launches the Motor Boat Club's course. Cutters will use No. 2 courso. Tl.« classification of the fleet is as follows:—First class: Mahina, Muritai, Atlanta, Siren, White Heather, v Wairere, and lolanthe; second class: Lizzie, Nancy Stair, Viking, Patronus, Isca, Nanoya, Taipare, and Ethel; third class: Rawene, Mahaki, Karaka,- May, Nikau, Te Rhuna, and Amai. The above is to be recommended to a general meeting of the club to be held on .Monday, January 9. ' ■ Launch Racing and Fleet Notes. Last Saturday afternoon a launch race was got off under the auspices of the Port Nicholson Motor Boalt Ciub. The race was over the Ivaiwarra course, and was all open handicap race. The starting times were as- follow:—Tender, 3 o'clock, Maui, 3hr. Manutai, 3hr. lGlmin.; Puriri, 3hr. 281min.; Veronica, 3hr. 30Jmin.; and Scotia, 3hr. 32Jmin. The race was won 'by the Tender with the Manutai. second, and the Scotia' third. The Veronica did not finish. . The Ethel is being fitted with a new ciizzen mast.,' This time it will be fitted right through the deck., .The reason for the mast carrying away recently was that it was only stepped on the deck. The little vessel has also had- another 6cwt. of lead put on. Her skipper states that, with the yawl rig* and the extra lead, sho is a very stiff craft. . Mr. Jury's auxiliary yacht Ruihi has been upon the slip for cleaning, and was brought down last Saturday afternoon. The Ruihi is not going over to the Sounds this Christmas, as her' owner and crew are going camping to, one of' the bays. - Isca will probably, be seen' out for . a spin this afternoon, as she has her sails on. She is yawl-rigged, .and will no doubt shake things up during the racing season. Mr. H. Smith's launch .. has been repaired. and was launched last week. Muritai was up for cleaning last Sunday; and was given a coat of copper paint and also a coat of varnish.. If the weather is suitable, the,Muritai will leave for Port Underwood this afternoon. She will, take the following crew:—Messrs. S, E. Forbes, W. Forbes, G. R, Little, and Archer. Messrs. Moore's yacht Mahina will also leave for. Port Underwood this afternoon. . Kotiri and Wairere are to leave for a cruise in the Sounds this afternoon. The Te Aro Sailing Club will continue its racing season after the. New Year. The club wishes to cater for the public, /ind' notifies that the races can be seen from the Boat. Harbour. In connection with the excursion steamer to Picton and the Sounds on Boxing Day, one of the attractions oil that date will be the Endeavour Inlet Model Yacht Club's regatta. At .Picton launches can be liad to convey patrons to the Inlet. A handicap race for launches, a ladies' dinghy race, and other novel events are. included in the club's programme. The Heretaunga Boating Club have included in their programme for Regatta Day, to bo held on. January. 2, New Year's Day, a cruiser's race for deep keel r ers, for a trophy valued at ,£B. The club has also on its programme races for , centre-board boats and launches.
