THAT BOTTLE ON THE BEACH,
ALLEGED DUCO MESSAGE.

Christchurch, December 22. | J.ne bottle, containing an alleged mes» sage from a member" of the Duco wreck, J' 1 picked up on the beach near oouthbridge, was brought to town late' mis afternoon, and the actual message itself was sent to Wellington by to-nighfs steamer. The bottle is similar in shape to the ordinary quart beer bottle, and bears a well-known Dunedin brand. The' message was written on the back of a race-card headed: "Dunedin meeting, third day, Saturday, February 26," the card being printed by the Ciiy Printing Company, Wellington. The card was folded up, and placed. inside a yellow cigarette wrapper. The message is' written in pencil, in somewhat shaky handwriting. It is stated that the hand-writ-' ing of Peterson, who was on the steamer °n the last unlucky voyage,'is known to a Wellington resident,. and ;that gentleman will be able to say whether or not the message purporting to come from Peterson is a genuine one. ' BOY SCOUTS' CAMP. CALL FOE BAIL CONCESSIONS; : Christchurch, December 22. ' A monster camp of instruction fof South Island Boy Scouts will be-held at Wainoni Park, opening on January' 4 aud closing on ' January 9. The camp is' being arranged by. the Christchurch Executive, who have invited all the Boy. Scouts of the South Island' to attend, with the object of extending the benefits of camp as widely as possible It is anticipated that there will be about 500Boy Scouts in attendance, some 'of them coming from Southland, others from Otago, and others from various portions of Canterbury. The attendance wilt largely depend on whether certain railway .concessions can be obtained from the Government, and efforts.,are being, made to arrange these. The''principal' work of the camp will, be instructions in. scout work. In addition, there will be. competitions of various sorts, such<. as bridge and hut-building, knotting, .bandaging, etc., as well, as races and sports. Examinations will be held for ..variouj badges, these, including cooks' badges. A THIRD-CLASS INVASION. ' PER S.S. WAIWERA. '' . . Dunedin, December 22. . , Waiwera, from London direct, aita rived this morning with 260 third-olass passengers, among whom are 92 assisted' emigrants, 28 domestics, 18 farm labourers, sis farmers, and 12' raves coming tc 'rejom'their"husbands. Pictoii, Nelson, Greymoutli, 'Westport, Wanganui, ■' New Plymouth, and Napier passengers leave by the Tamui to-daj-, and. Lyttelton, .Wellington, and Auckland passengers by th» larawera to-day. ~ '
