Thorndon Quay was enlivened by thg sounds of "music" yesterday morning just prior to the departure of the Main Trunk express for Auckland. On. their way ■to the station a number of joliyi Jack Tars from H.M.S. Pioneer, who are on holiday leave, formed themselves into a small company, threo abreast, and. headed by one of their number, playing <m accordion, marched towards the'train. Great amusement was caused by the lirttie band, for tliey were' out for inn, and a big corpulent man witli the instrument was ably assisted-by his comrades .in playing such airs as "Tho Girl I Left Behind 'Me" and "a Life on ths Ocean Wave," by means of hat boxes on<i each, improvised iustruments. When the station. ' was reached the nuaibar was con-* sidcrably augmented by numerous other Tars, and. it was a happy, jolly crowd of "sons of the sea" who, when the is-* press pulled out, lbft a few comrades be-,, hind with expressions of •rojjret on their.
