MILITARY COLLEGE.

DOMINION CADETS. ' Further particulars have been supplied by the Defence Department, as to the conditions on which ten New Zealand cadets will be admitted to tho Military College of Australia. . Each candidate and his parent or guardian is required to sign a form in Which the former engages to serve in . the permanent military forces of the Dominion for twelve years, unless. previously discharged, dismissed, removed, or his resignation duly accepted. Tho guardian is required, to certify his intention that the candidate, if lie obtains a cadetship, shall adopt tho T military service as his profession for life. Admission to' the college mil be granted only to cadets who. have passed an open competitive examination (which in New Zealand will l>e conducted by the Defenco Department) and a prescribed medical examination. Tho syllabus of the entrance examinations, and the table of physical equivalents, as well as the dates and places, of examinations can. bo obtained from the coiumandaut of any military districts in the Commonwealth or in New Zealand. Candidates must be natural-born British subjects, and they 'or their parents'orguardians must liavo resided ill tho Commonwealth or. Nsw Zealand for ' one year immediately preceding the date of the entrahco examination. A further provision is that candidates must be not less than 16 or more than 19 years ct age on March .1,. 1911. Vacancies at the college will be allotted to the States of the Commonwealth ;on a population basis, and from each State'will compete among themselves, but New Zealand has been allotted a maximum number of ten cadets, irrespective of 'population/ No. fees will'bo charged for equipment, 'instruction,, of maintenance of cadets, .and their, travelling, expenses between their homes and tho college, will be paid on first joining and on graduation. .• "An allowance, estimated'to cover the expenses of uniform, books, and instruments, messing, waishing, and ' other contingencies will be admitted 'as a charge against the public so. long as the cadet is borne .on the. books , of the Military College. In the .event of a cadet exceeding this the deficiency 'will be charged against his parents or' guardian. The allowance will cease if, a,cadet is rusticated or removed during a' term, but' not if lie is absent, during portion of a term, through sickness. No cadet will' be allowed to reeeivo, money or other supplies from his parent, guardian, or other source,. without tho .sanction of the Commandant?. A most rigid observance of this order is 'urged on all parents .and guardians, as its violation would make, distinctions between cadets,' which it, is particularly desired to prevent.,- , '■

Tho normal, length- of ..the course of instruction will -be. four, years,' divided into eight t-ernis, but when/tlio demand for officers requires' it, tho course may be shortened: The autumn term will extend fronr about March to June 24, and tho spring term 'from about July 14,t0 December'ls.■

Apart from -military '.' subjects 1 embodied in the course of .instruction, it includes tho following "civil subjects:— Mathematics, English, physical science (chemistry, physics,. - and languages (French and German), sanitation, hygiene, and first aid, manual training in workshops.' .
