(From Our Special Correspondent.) Paimerston North, December 20, I • - en i°yable organ recital took place 1!1 l iAbrew's Church last evening/ when the organist, • Mr. C. W. Naylor, gave a programme which brought, out tho capabilities of the. fine instrument which the church now possesses. Tho programme included Richmond's "Pastorale," buuivan's "Pastoral Symphony," "The Angel s -Chorus/' "Offertoire in G," -and a couple of marches. A trio, "Lift Thine -byes/ by Messrs. Simes and-Paget (2), and the sacred song "Though Thoughtless Men, 1 by Mr. W. Smith, wore vocal items that were well rendered and much appreciated, as were also several carols, and au anthem, by the choir. •
Early m tho coming year the Mayoress J ls, i- proposes to • organise a, function of some description to wipe out the debt on the High • and Technical schools. Mrs. Kash is very thorough in any jnatters which she undertakes, and it may therefore ba confidently anticipated that tho schools will not long remain in debt..
The Chinese residents of Paimerston have contributed *11 15s. 6d'. towards tho erection.of the proposed Old Men's'Home'.
The recent garden party organised by the Indies of St. Peter's Guild, resulted m a profit of ,£SO towards the extinction of the dg&bt on St. Peter's Sunday School room. *
•There was a good' attendance at the summoned meeting of Court Manawatu, A.0.1., evening, Bro, W. P. Patten, junior, presiding. A communication was received from tho Fire Board stating that it would be necessary to, have two fire extinguishers at the hall, and inti mating that those should be procured at once, iu order to comply with tho portions .of the new Fire BoariT "Act." T-he Paimerston Hifles held a very pleasant social gathering t last , evening; atter the conclusion .of the usual parade, baptam Mounscy being in the cliair*. Tlie usual loyal toasts were honoured, ■ and a number of vocal items • contributed liv members of tlie. corps. ■■ .. ;■ _The annual meetin? of the Mhiiawatu Bowling Centre was held yesterday afternoon, Air.
