•: —; 9 ; r-. BI.AZE AT HA'PAJjTAI. BASKET FACTORY DESTROYED. At 5.10 p.m. yesterday, the Fire Brigade received a • call to Hataitai, and ■on arrival there discovered that a serious fire was in progress at F. 0. Wcine's chair and basket factory—a two-storied sixroomed building' not far from the tram tunnel. The conflagration was in an advanced stage when the brigade reached there, and the building,, with its contents, was practically ' destroyed. It appears that the factory hands were all away at the time, as they were to return to.work after tea. The fire, is supposed to have been caused' by some "sparks from a heap of refuse that was smouldering, the flames being fanned by a high wind that was blowing. ' The building was insured for ,£3OO in the South British Ofiico, the contents being covorcd by a policy for . a similar amount in the same office. During the progress of the fire, some sparks set fire to the eaves of an adjacent dwelling, occupied by George T. liowcr, but no real damage resulted to this building. ■
