Masterton, December 20. The many friends in Masterton of Mr. A. C. Major will be pleased to learn that he has passed the first section of his law examination. Mr. Major is at pre.-ent in charge of the Hastings branch of the firm of Dolan and Ferguson, solicitors.

The annual meeting of 'tlie Masterton Fire Brigade Veterans' Association was held last evening, Mr. J. Prentice presiding. The report and balance-slieet, which were adopted, showed a credit of iCS. Executive Committeo which has been formed in connection with tlio -beautifying of the public park. The secretary reported-that Bro. A. Wheeler had won the medal presented by Bro. P. Smith for introducing tho most members during tho present year. Tho following team has been selected to represent tho Masterton Firo Brigade, at tho Hokitika demonstration Superintendent Jenkins; Foremen B*: Braggins, E. and C.' Jenkins, and. Branchmen Feilding and Brooks.
