| BIG IRRIGATION WORKS. Sydney, December 20. During consideration of the Murrumbidgee irrigation scheme in the Assembly, Mr. Lee, ex-Minister of Lands, stated that the Barren Jack dam v;ould inignte 350,000 acres, which would eventually be increased to a million and a half acres. This would provide for the settlement of 150,000 persons, representing a production value of three and a half millions nnnuallyJ CRIMES AND CONVICTIONS. Sydney, December 20. The Inspector-General of Police refutes the statement of Mr. Holman, At-torney-General, that 50 per cent, of the reported crimes go unpuuished. He quotes statistics to show that 60 per cent, of the offences reported last year were punished. QUEENSLAND LOANS. I Brisbane, December 20. The State Treasurer tabled in the Assembly loan proposals to the amount of £9,991,000. . The whole is to be expended on railway construction, the extension of the Great Western lino absorbing over ,£'1,000,000, and the 'North Coast line .£2,320,000. ....
