— 1 -4- : (From Our Special Correspondent.! Yesterday Dr. M'Artluir, S.M., was entertained at luncheon by tho Petoue Justices of tho Pence, ami local members of the legal fraternity. Mr. Mothes, senior J.P., ill a congratulatory speech, welcomed the doctor liacl; to Pctone. Mr. Cracroit AVilson, on behalf of the legal profession, also spoke.
After the ordinary business of the Lower Hutt Borough Council had been disposed of last evening, an adjournment, was made to supper, where happy speeches were made, and season's greetings were exchanged.
Dr. M'Arthur, S.M., and Messrs Mothes and Southgate, justices, occupied tho bench at the monthly sitting of the 1 etone Court yesterday morning. Arthur Gilbert, charged with being drunk, was comicted and discharged. Oil a second charge—that of procuring liquor whilst a prohibition or'dei- was in existence against him—Gilbert was fined 55., with costs os. For impeding tho traffic, by causing persons to gather in the street, J. Aerslatc (an ice-cream vendor) was convicted and discharged. Charged with negligently riding a motor cycle in Victoria Street, Rupert Parr was lined 10s., and costs 7s. Judgment was given for plaintiff m the following civil cases:— F. J Reid v. ,T. Wilson, '105.,' and costs Bs.; George and George v. F Wehme, .£1 19s. 6(1., and costs 55.; Hurrell and Cromn v. W. Moroland, £3, and costs 65.; A. lalbert v..A. Spicer, os. 8d„ and costs os.; Webley and Co. v. Alex Gough, i£2 2s. Id., with .'costs ss. In the judgment summons case of B. Jones v. A. iiiikerton, no order was made.
