HadMd, which : occurred yesterday in the Thorndon, Privato Hospital. • Mr£ Hadfield was the eldest son of 'hiMate Bishop-Hadfield, who was Bishop of Wellington and Primate of New Zealand.' ..A; sufferer for.-several, years from ail internal complaint, to;which bo, ultimately, fell a victim, Mr. Hadfield underwent : repeated operations in New Zealand; arid filially went to England for special ' treatment. ' Unhappily, he ob. tained no-rolief, and returned to Wellington by the Rotorna on the Sunday before-last, so low in,. health • that he could not be taken ashore until the following day. After lingering for a week, be succumbed yesterday. Het was fifty-seven-years old. Mr. Hadfield-was highly .esteemed by all who knew him.,for the unaffected kindliness of his disposition.' He was an accomplished Maori scholarend served from 1879 until 1883 as Native interpreter to the House of Representatives. Subsequently, he acted in a similar capacity • ill the- Legislative l Council and under Sir Dillon Bell arid Sir W .Eos, in settling Native disputes on the West'Coast'of ■ the-North Island. ...Mi 1 .
