[From Our Ssoclal CorroßDonflentsJ ;—$ FEATHERSTON. The plant for tlio new bridge over tho Ruamahanga River at Martinborougli is now on tho site and the contractor (Mr. D. Burke, of Petone) is busy erecting the necessary sheds. It is anticipated that a start will very shortly be made with tho construction itself. Tho present bridge has been condemned for heavy traffic by tlio engineer, Mr. Laing-Meason, and tho rofusal to allow it to bo used for traction engines is severely felt.
SHANNON. Mr. W. H. Gunning presided at a meeting in the Druids' Hall last week, when matters in connection with the library and reading-room came up for discussion.. In view of the fact.that the present ! post office building may probably be utilised as a public library and mechanics' institute, when the new post office is,erected, it was decided to resurrect the library, which recently fallen on evil days, its contents having been given over to moths and dust through lack of interest and funds. A new committee, consisting of Messrs. J. Mitchell, T. Lind, E. J. Judd, W. Clayton, and C. F. Exall, was appointed. . Messrs. Gunning and Mitchell were appointed trustees.
A rink of Shannon bowlers visited Otalci to play tho holders of tho Kinniburgh Feathers. The Shannon side, which consisted of Messrs. J. Obson, T. Lind, W. H. Gunning, and G. N. Stepkonson. (s.), left tho Feathers in Otaki. ' On the local green tho holders of the Dixon Friendly Pins were defeated by Messrs. J. Mitchell and .T. R. Esson. Afternoon tea was provided by Mrs. Schmidt for bowlers and tennis players. Tho tennis courts have beeu exceptionally well patronised this season.'

The Druids' Hall was packed on Friday night, when the annual school concert was held. No more successful entertainment has been given locally by the schoolchildren, and the audience showed its appreciation by frequent applause. The following was the programme: — Overture, Master R. Moynihan; quartet, "Tin Bird," children ; ' recitation, Harold Buckman; chorus, "Grecian.Girls," children; recitation, Miss Brown (encorc);. song, Mr. Nelson (encore); recitation, "Baby's Burden," children; .song, Miss Ethel Smith ;> rainbow song, children (encore); recitation, Rubert Howe; song, Miss Asquith; plume song, children (encore); recitation, Mr. Gibb (encore); song and chorus, "Days of tho AVeek," children. Pare ll.—Recitation, Master Brown (encore); song, Misses Nicholson and Ritter (encorc); Japanese song, children ; song, Mrs. May (encore); character recitation, children; song, Mr. May f (encore); recitation, Arthur Munden; ' song, Mrs. Gibson; violin solo, Reginald Merwood; Irish jig, Mr. J. Cu-rran; dumb-bell drill,. children. Tho' committee, Mr. Voysey, the headmaster. ALiss Silvester, and Miss Mason deserve credit for the arrangements and tho success of the concert. • An enjoyablo dance followed
