OPENING OF SEASON. On Saturday afternoou Port Nicholson presented ouo of the prettiest sights that havo been seen for quite a long, .while.. Cruising round about the Boat- Harbour were numbers of small and largo yachts, some of which were gaily decorated with flags. The occasion was tho opening of. the Port Nicholson 'Yacht Club's season. The club was evidently out to cater' for the public as'well as ever it possibly could and it succeeded. All aloiig the. shore at the Boat Harbour, yachtsmen in their "whites," wero in evidence. After the yachts had bean cruising around for sonic time, tliey formed into two lines, headed by'the commodores. and rearcommodore's yachts, and m'ado off for Scorching, Bay with an easterly breeze. Tho Te Aro Sailing. Club postponed its race and followed iii the procession, the little fleet looking very pretty, as tliey heeled over to the squalls'. The Wellington Cruising Yacht Club's fleet also joined in the procession, which numbered , between 40 arid 50 sailing boats. Tho club chattered tho steamer Pilot to convey patrons and friends to the bay, and she was a full ship, when she left the wharf. The Heretaiinga Boating Club was also represented at tho club's .picnic, and ai" number of launches were present.' Scorching ■ Bay' was packed witli: yachts and launches and the shore was also thickly crowded with people. 'A very. 1 enjoyable afternoon tea was provided. The, yachts and steamer left.the. bay about 6 o'clock arriving - at the Boat . Harbour at ; their leisure. The outing.was a very.successful one, and credit is duo .to the secretaries. and committee for making it such a success., . ..
