~ c— ELECTIONS ALMOST OVER. JANUARY FIGURES REPEATED IN DETAIL. GOVERNMENT LEAD OF 124.
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Rec. Dec, 19, 0.15 a.m.) London, December 18. All but six mombers of the new Parliament have been elected, and the Government majority now stands at 122, as against 124 at the conclusion of tho General Elections in January.
In England two seats have yet to be filled. To restore the position in January each party would have to gain one of these seats.
The Welsh returns are complete, and represent a gain of one seat by the Unionists.
Two Scottish contests have to be decided, and tho Government is two behind its January figures.
In Ireland two seats also remain unfilled, and the Unionists need two more supporters to be where they wero after the last elections. .
The position of parties now stands as follows, the number of members required for each part of the United Kingdom being shown in parentheses: Government. Unionist. Kerry is the last Nationalist gain from the O'Brienitcs. Forty-two Labour members have been elected, as against 40 in January. The total, however, includes eight members of the Independent Labour party. THE PARLIAMENT BILL. LORDS DETERMINED TO FIGHT. London, December 16. The Earl of Selborne (formerly High Commissioner of South Africa), in speaking at St. Andrews, Fifeshire, referred to the Parliament Bill, and said the House of Lords would not hesitate at any effort to defeat the Government's object. The Duke of Marlborough confidently predicts that the Parliament Bill would never bccomo law.
