DR. CLIFFORD'S BIRTHDAY.
Dr. Clifford's seventy-fourth birthday was marked on October 17 not'only by a very warm-hearted gathering.of frjends at Westbourne Park. Chapel,' but also by the subscription of the last., few pounds of the £5000. required for the renovation of- the buildings and mission hall. The fund was opened in 1908, when Dr. Clifford celebrated his; jubilee as pastor at Westbourne Park, and was the form of testimonial chosen by the doctor himself.
Dr. Clifford , was looking wonderfully well at a reception which lasted for tho greater part of the afternoon and evening. "I aui feeling really young," he assured everyone. Many telegrams .of congratulation were received, and. among them were long messages from Sir 'J. ComptonRickett, M.P., and the president of the Glasgow Baptist Association. .Most valued perhans of all the tributes were a number of'little gifts from children, whioh generally took the form'of the "lolly-pops" for which Dr. Clifford retains an unashamed partiality. ' The Rev. W. "Hunt brought wishes for "many happy returns of the' day" from the' neighbouring Wesleyan Church, Wcstbounie Grove; tho Rev. J. W. Walker, minister of the . Presbyterian Church, -Westbourne Grove; the Rex. J. H. Rushcroft, pastor-clect of tho now Free Church at Hampstead Garden City; Mr. Birch Hoyle, of Aberdeen, and Leonard Franklin, "prospective Liberal candidate for North Paddington.- made sgeeches. '
