NEW .LICENSING LAW. Dunedin, December 16. In the Police Court this mornings , Philip Thomas Ellis was charged with obtaining liquor ■ by falsely representing, himself to be. of the age of twenty-one years. Defendant, pleaded guilty. ■ constable ' stated that • ho entered th<' bar,, and found defendant, with two other men, all having beer in front. of them. Defendant told this constable, that he had paid, for, the liquor, and, in response to further questions, said he was over twenty-one. He also made a false statement to the barman, who had asked his age, and pointed to a notice posted up in the bar. Mr. Bartholomew, S.M., imposed a fine of 20a and costs. CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER. Auckland,' December 16. A charge of' manslaughter was laid against William Ernest Dawe at tha lolico Court to-day, in connection with the death of Thomas Albert Thompson, jlio was crushed ' while coupling two tramcars. These cars collided, as a result of the car on which Dawe was motorman bumping into one to which deceased was fixing a coupling. It was alleged by the prosecution that accident was due to carelessness on mriltw + ? aW u" Accus <=d pleaded not' guuty to the' charge,, reserved liis darence, and was committed for trial.
