Tho Hansard staff was worn out, and reduced to taking a note instead of a verbatim report.
J The Electoral Amending Bill has been passed. An attempt to avoid postal voting failed, and the only important alteration mado in the Bill was that Saturday wis abandoned as the polling day, tho new provision being that any day can be fixed for the elections, bat there must bo a half-holiday. The Estimates were then taken, and, with tho frequent applications of tho closure, fair progress was made. 1 _ Several members spoko in favour of increasing members' salaries. . The Premier, Mr. M'Gowen, said it was a surprise to him how country members managed to subsist on a paltry £300. It had been suggested that he should introduce a Bill to increase tho amount by a hundred or two hundred, or to submit the matter to a referendum.
