RECEIVED IN SILENCE.
A EEIIAEK ABOUT CRICKETERS. _ Scant gratitude is apparently the portion which has been meted out to the Wellington cricketers for their rathergenerous attitude to a kindred sports • body. Some time ago they agreed to give up the Basin Reserve for the W A A C sports meeting on December 10. The dav ■ turned out wet,- and the W.'A.A.C. were thus thrown again on the generosity of tho, cricketers. Once more the cricktiers gave-up the ground without demur. The matter was mentioned, at a meeting of the local contra of tho Amateur Athletic Association, last evening. At first members m a general chorus commended the of, the Cricket Association as .sportsmanlike, but there was a rider to the verdict . "They could.not have done anything else, said one member. "That so,", said Mr. M'Villy. (president of Hie .centre).- ; I think that they (the ! Cricket Association) ,are waking up to the fact that they don't own the Basin ( lEeserve—don't .possess a pre-emptive right ,ovsr it—and that the sooner they take up >a reasonable position in the matter the ••better.win to their position with- the i oouncil. The remark was received with Silence.
