Nickalls declared that Arnst threatened to throw up the race unless his demand was conceded.- He (Nickalls) was placed in a difficult position, and ended, by giving Arnst his personal cheque .for £100. He claimed that owing to Arnst's action there was likely to be a deficit of ,£SO, which tho guarantors would Tiave to make good. Arnst and Floyd, on being interviewed here, denied a number of Nickalls's statements.. , Arnst' said: "They cannot take a beating like sportsmen." The reason 110 demande dtho extra Hundred was that he' had thought ho was to get a share of the gate money and--the sole rights of tho moving pictures, but he got nothing out of the gate; and'liad to share tho picture money with Barry. He was also charged for accommodation, though he understood' his party were to be the guests of • the Chartered Company.
