WELLINGTON- CITI-' dOUNCIL. , The fortnightiy. meeting'of the' City Council held , last . evening was attended by the Mayor (Sir. I'.'it. Wilford,"M.P.), and Councillors Shi.rtclifl'e, Luke, Morrah, Carmicha'elr.:Barber,. Thompson, Trevor, I'rost, ..'dCohen.vi^£itzgerold,--. il'Laren; l'ietehcr. and- Atkinson. I -. The Power Stations and Tramway Committee recommended: That the Island Bay Ratepayers' -.Association be informed that the provision of screens to prevent draughts under seats in palace cars is not considered advisable. That a readjustment of the salaries of- power and lighting inspectors be made as recommended by the Electrical Engineer. That liability be denied in connection with damage alleged, to have been caused to a bicyclo through collision with a tramcar. -That application be made to the Public Works Department for sanction to a slight deviation of tho Wadestoivn tramway track, as recommended by tho City Engineer. That tenders bo called for 200 steel tyres for the Tramways Department—Adopted.. The Bath's" aud City Reserves Committee recommended: , That the Superintendent of Reserves bo empowered to employ additional temporary labour in ord»r to cut the grass on the plantations lately under the caro of the Scenery Preservation Society, and also to attend to the Kilbirnie reserve, just recently planted. That the application of the 'Wellington Hockey Association for the use of certain recreation grounds for next c»a'snn 'm held over for the present. That the Kifbirnie School Committee be granted a lease of part of Section 7 -of the Town Belt reserve for the purpose of a riilo range, the lessee having granted his consent. The - rental is to be fixed bv th» City Valuer.—Adopted. The By-laws, Fire Brigade, and Stref-t Lighting Committee recommended: Thut the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board be informed, in reply to tlwir request for a report from tho Superintendent of the Fire Brigade on. the fire apparatus required" for the lieiv Infectious Diseases Hospital, that .on the superintendent's return from Australia, the report, will be furnished. That an application for permission to show lantern views on a verandah at Willis Street be refused. That the, owners of adjacent property having the right to use Fallowlield Avenue be nerved with notice to 'construct a crossing of the type required by tho City Engineer, and, in tho meantime,', persons traversing the footpath with .vehicles'be warned that proceedings will be taken against them. That the resolution of the Health Committee riassed on August 9, 1910, as follows:—"That the City Solicitor be instructed to take the necessary action to enforce the demolition of Mr. ,T. If. Welsby's stables at. Aro Street, in ac-' cordance with (lie Stipendiary Magistrate's order, dated January 17. 1910," be given effect to immediately.—Adopted.
