A long discussion.' took place in regard to some prize money, won by tho yacht Nancy Stair, which had not been presented to the owners. It was stated, that the reason for not paying over the money was that tho entrance, fee had not been paid. Mr.''Tattle, moved that the matter be thoroughly gone into .by the committee, and be reported .on at a future meeting. .Tho question of racing permits was dis.cussed,, ar.d it, iVas decided that each man who acted as one of a crew, on a yacht which was racing, and who was not . a member of the .club, • would require to obtain a racing permit at a cost'of-2s. 6d. The club will open its season on- Saturday next by holding a picnic at one of tho. bays. It was decided to invite all the yacht clubs and the motor-boat club. Mr. B. Nathan moved as a suggestion' that yachtsm'en ought; to do .something in the way of.providing a trophy : for motor-boat races, as ' many yachtsmen,, when, out and thowind drops; have been glad of, a tow home by a passing launch. It was'. decided to purchase 'a trophv and a subscription was tdken up, the sum of £2 Is. 6tl. being collected. SCULLING. HARD WORK ON THE WANGANTJI. (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.' Wanganui, December 13..; Pearce, who went .up the river on Friday last, lad a couple of spins over the championship course on Saturday, puttins in some hard work each time. He took a spell on Sunday, but was afloat yesterday morning with the intention of having a solid row over the full course. However, after covering a couple ;of miles on the way up, .one of his outriggers snapped, • thus .putting a sudden end to the row, and preventing the .Australian from getting in any further work yesterday. Tlic damage was repaired, and to-day Pearce was able to get in a good row over the course. The couple of days' spell will do him no harm, as ho is well forward, and. quite light enough (12st. 91b.'). Webb is doing plenty of work, 'and it appears to be agreeing with him, as ho is in the best of health and. spirits, and in every, way his condition is thoroughly satisfactory. On Saturday afternoon he had a very hard row over somo two miles .against the wind and tide, and finished up well and strong." On Sunday ho carried out a fast spin over a mile and a ikilf, his rov;ing particularly fine in both instances, while his pace was also good. Yesterday he put in some more steady work with seve-' ral good, sprints. He lias improved very much in condition during the last couple of. weeks, and it is evident that his trainer is going to land him at tho post at. least quite as fit as ever ho has been. His friends are very hopeful, but there is no lack of confidoncc in the opposition camp, and tho. prosnccts are that the race will be a splendid struggle, especially over the first half. of. tho distance. After that it will be a question as to staying power. In connection with W. Fogwell's challenge to row Gcorgo Whelch for .CIOO aside'and tho championship'of New Zealand at the end of January, a roplv has been received from Mr. W. G. Da'ly to the effect that the. time proposed would be very'unsuitable'for'such .a race, and .intimating.that it would be very inadvisable to fix the date prior to Easier. Monday, when W'helch would be quite prepared'to row the Australian again.. As the Akarea sculler intends coming to Wanganui to see the Pearce-Webb match no doubt some arrangement will -be come to between the two principals, both of whom aro. apparently anxious ' to make another, match. Judging from the greatly improved, form which. Fogivell is now showing in ,liis , work, with Pearce lie should, pfove a .much harder nut for Whelch to crack should the pair meet again- /
