ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
INSTANTANEOUS DEATH. ' • (By Telegraph—Press . Association.) Wqstport,. December 11. A trucker named Gilbert Rutledge \yas killed this afternoon in tho Kiwi section of tho Westport Coal Company's Ironbridge mine. Deceased was apparently, struck on the head by .the handle of tho brake at the jig. when; ho was lowering a rako of coal trucks, death being instantaneous. Ho was 21 years of age. a' Sad. fatality, Dunedin, December 13. A sad accident, which. terminated, fatI ally, occurred near Kartigi to-day, the ■ victim being. Catherine Coughlan, aged ;17 .years. Miss Coughlan, whose father ;is' licensee of the Shamrock Hotel, was la passenger by l the first express from the jnorth, and she .and her cousin were returning from the Oamaru Convent for :thb Christmas holidays. The girl, it apjpears, fell of! the. train, and, when pickled up, was dead, the body being badly cut. , CHILD KILLED ON TIMBER STACK. Taihape, December 14. The four-year-old son of Georgo Ware, employed at the Manawatu Company's sawmill here,'was found dead under a pile df timber yesterday afternoon. Apparently the- child' had been climbing the timber stack, when it fell over, with fatal results. FOUND DEAD. ' Auckland, December 14. i George William Williams, photographer, laged about 60 years, was found dead in bed this morning by his daughter. The cause of death is unknown.
