At tho meeting of the Peninsula and Oriental Steam Navigation Company, Sir Thomas Sutherland, who presided, said, the company was becoming more independent of mail service, for which tho subsidy represented about one-twelfth of tlie gross icvemie. . If the mail services ceased, said the chairman, the company would bo able to find other means of developing business, more independent and not less profitable.
