Dr. M'Arthur yesterday heard'a claim by Walter Houldswortli, of Waripori Street, against tbo Wellington Rugby TJnipn. Plaintiff claimed .£lO for damages alleged to have been caused tD his property oil' August' 27 by water drained from Athletic Park flowing into his house., Plaintiff in his evidence- stated that, in coiisequcnco of heavy rain in August last,.-there was a largo accumulation of water oil Athletic Park. Defendants, in order to have.tho ground, ready for play, cut a drain, and allowed the water to How on to his property and into tho house, completely flooding one room, i Mr. Iferdnuui, who appeared for the Rugby Union, stated, that the Water had accumulated as the result, of the drains in the vicinity of Waripori Street being blocked, and there was evidence to show plaintiff had been flooded out. early in tho morning of August 27, whereas the Rugby Union had let no water clown until the afternoon. His Worship decided to visit, the locality, and intimated that he would give his decision oil December 20. Mr. Myers appeared for plaintiff. POLICE. GASES. (Before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M.) George Williams, alias Crawford, alias Wilson, was charged with assaulting Bartholomew Mahoney with intent to rob. Accused was committed for trial. Matthew Cooper, lamidyman, Newtown, was brought ur> on a charge, of assaulting a his -wife with* intent to do her actual ' bodily harm.—Committed for trial. Two charges of assault upon little girls were preferred- against Joseph Bannekcr Eilgcr, a music teacher.—Committed for trial.' ■ ■ Henry Gvell and Pcreival George Hester were -charged with breaking and en-
teriiig a storeroom at the City Buffet Hotel andstealing seven bottles of liquor. —Remanded until to-day. Bryda Sheohan, appearing on a charge, of drunkenness, was convicted and discharged. She; was nlso charged with being an idle 'ami disorderly person, without lawful means of support. The magistrate ordered her to be placed ill the Salvation Army Home and remain there for six months. Florence M'Donald, for procuring liquor during tho currency of a.prohibition order, received a fine' of .£3 or one month's detention. She was convicted and discharged on a charge of drunkenness. A man named David Brogmus, with 2-t previous convictions, had another for drunkenness added to the list, and was lined 205., in default .seven days in gaol. A charge of disorderly behaviour whilst drunk was preferred against Peter Butler. Fined 405., or. seven days. For deserting from s.s. Ruapehu at Wellington, Patrick Driscoll was fined 10s. and court cost 75., in default 48 hours, and was ordered to be placed on board the vessel when she sailed. .James Flitt, who had absented himself without; leave from the s.s. F-uapheu at Lyttolton, was ordered to pay court costs 125., given |48 hours' detention, and ordered to .he placed on board tho vessel. ■
