AND ETHERGRAMS. (By Telegraph;— Special Corrcsnondent.) Auckland, December 13. In reply to inquiries nbo,ut what tlia Department is doing in regard to wireless arid other apparatus, lir. G. Ailport, Secretary of Marine, told an Auckland reporter' tliat shipowners had been circularised regarding the proposal .to carrj a sounding-bell apparatus on ships, so .that if the Department erected bells at dangerous points along the coast there would bo'a means of ascertaining _ when danger existed. Tending the decision of the shipowners, the Department can tab no further action in this direction. A'definite step has been taken, however, ill regard to wireless telegraphy. 'Parliament has voted the money for the erection of several wireless stations, and the sum of <£1000 has also been voted for fitting one of tho Government steamers with a wireless apparatus as soon as the stations have been erected. It has-not yet been decided what boot will be so. fitted, •as the Department lias, for. some time, had the Hincmo.V up for sale. Tenders were recently 'called for the purchase of - tho vessel,'but no offer.was forthcoming, and. the Ilinemoa was still on the market.
