His Excellency the Governor has accepted an invitation to be present at tho Lav/ Students' Association's annual dinner to-morrow evening. Sir Daniel and Lady Gooch, of "Hylands," Chelmsford, England, are visitors to New Zealand. Sir Daniel is the third baronet of a line created in IBGG. The lirst baronet was a celebrated engineer, chairman of the Great Western lfailway Company, and M.P. for Crickdale. The visitors have gone fishing to Tokaanu, The Hon. A. Baldey, M.L.C.. of Otago, intends to pay a visit to England early in the New Year. He will leave Auckland for London by the Macedonia on February 15. Of the passengers who arrived from England by the iiotorua 011 Sunday last, Colonel B. M. Blcnnerhassett has gone on a trout-fishing expedition to Tokaanu, and Mr. J. W. Adams, an ex-Governor of tho State of Nevada, is touring the northern thermal district. Mr. E. Calderan, of Guatemala, who is touring the North Island, intends to visit Lake Waikare-Moana. Mr. Whitmore Preston, of Boston, United States of America, is a visitor to Wellington. Mr. John O'Shea, City Solicitor, leaves on a trip to Sydney and Melbourne on Friday next. He will be accompanied by Mrs. O'Shea. Mr. C. H. Izard intends to pay a'visit to the Old Country early next year. Among those who intend to visit England at Coronation time are Mr. Tapper, Inspector of the Bank of New Zealand, and Mrs. Tapper; and Mr. Campbell, manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Wauganui, and Mrs. Campbell. They have booked by tho Macedonia, which leaves Auckland on February 15 next. The Eev. Mr. Beecroft, of Jeilding, leaves for England on the Mooltan, which sails from Auckland on Tuesday next.. Mr. J. W. Copithorne, of' Wellington,. has returned from a trip to England and the Continent. At. Cork he' delivered a lecture on New Zealand. The death is announced of Mr. George Steedman, a well-known mine manager at Coromandfl. The deceased, who was 43 years of age, was a son of the late Mr. J. B. Steedman, a Thames pioneer. The resignation of Mr. ICirby, sole teacher at Coonoor, was accepted by the Wellington Education Board at its meeting yesterday. A resolution of condolence in connection with the death 'of Mr. S. Carroll, secretary to the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, was passed at the monthly meeting of the .Wellington Industrial Association last night. Mr. T. Ballinger was appointed president of the Wellington Industrial Association at the monthly meeting last night,, vice Mr, E. Bull, who was unable to continue in the position owing to pressure of business. Mr. C. H. D. Canavan, officer in charge of the operating. room of the New Plymouth Telegraph Office, has been appointed supervisor of the telephone exchange at Wellington. The Eev. A. T. Thompson (Masterton) was yesterday elected Moderator of the Wellington Presbytery for a period of six months. Mr. Thompson, who returned lately from a visit to Great Britain, was cordially welcomed by the Presbytery. Mr. George Allport Secretary for Marine, arrived at Auckland yesterday morning, and proceeded by the Government steamer Hinemoa on a tour of inspection of northern lighthouses., Mr. Allport intends visiting Tiri Tiri, Cuvier Island, Poiiui, Capo Brett, and Bay of Islands, and, on - his return from Bussell next week, proceeds back to Wellington via Manukau and Cape Egmont. Mr. Norman Hall and Mr. Albert Wilson, who have been absent for four years from Wellington, doing a tour of tho world, will arrive by the UUmoron, from Sydney to-day.V,. .
