THE WEATHER IN CANTERBURY. (By Teleeraph.-Press Association.) Christchurch, December 12. Shortly after cloven o'clock to-day light rain began. to f Black clouds thfn. began to roll up from the east, aiid a_ heavy thunderstorm commenced. Peals of thunder and vivid flashes of lightning continued for about an hour, accompanied by a drenching downpour. About 1 p.m. the weather cleared a little, and the thunderstorm passed away, though light rain continued to fall 'for some time. Lightning struck the Tramway Board's lines in several places in the city; and burnt off some light -brackets. It also struck the chimney of Mr. England's new house in Springfield , Road during the storm, and one chimney-pot and a few bricks were knocked off, and the tiled roof was damaged by the falling bricks. Other houses were also damaged. Several light showers fell in Lyttelton about 0 o'clock this morning, but a little later tho weather cleared. Shortly before midday a thunderstorm, accompanied by lightning and heavy rain, passed over the harbour. A thunderstorm passed over NorthCanterbury shortly after' midday, and heavy rain fell at Rangiora for half ah hour. Local showers foil over the northern district at intervals during the afternoon.
