MAKARA COUNTY COUNCIL

.A, meeting of. the Makara'. County Council, held yesterday, was presided over by Councillor J. Monk (chairman). , There were also present Councillors F. T. Moore, S.. Bryant, J. .Haggorty, H. Eastwood, and-F. Hawkins.. ■•'■'. ;

: The question of issuing building permits was considered. Several councillors were of the opinion- that sorao buildings erected within the county did .not conform to the.by-laws. It'was decided to have six- books of buildilig per-mit-forms printed, councillors to'issue permits 'in their respective districts. The clerk was instructed to write to the Valuation Department inquiring the easiest and l cheapest method of having tho values of buildings, erected since the last valuation was made, added to the roll.,- •'■ • ■

■ Councillor F. T. Mobro moved that the- council write to the Minister' in charge of the Crown Lands Department asking him to grant permission to instruct their ranger to impound the stoclron tho' Hawtreo■ Estate, and to cancel the rights to graze thereon. A telegraph polo encroaching on the main , road at Johnsonvillo and said to be a source of danger to traffic was mentioned by a councillor. The clerk was directed to write to the Telegraph ■Department asking them to romovo the polo to a safe distance from the road.
