THE NAVY LEAGUE.

The monthly meeting of the local ex- j ecutive of the Navy League, held at the Chamber of Commerce last night, was attended by Mr. J. B. Harcourt (in the chair), Colonel A.' Hume, Messrs. D. M'Kellar, C. W. Palmer, and Oscar Borer. As a result of Mr. Palmer's recent visit to Palmerston North with lantern slides, several fresh school branches had been formed, with an aggregate membership of some 150 juveniles. . Mr. Burnaud, the Palmerston Sub-branch secretary, was reported to be showing great energy in pushing the interests of the league, and was receiving generous support from the schoolmasters. The trip of the Manawatu school members to the flagship on November 2.1 had been in every way successful. As regards the excursion on November 24 by the Wairarapa juveniles and their parents, a misunderstanding between the education authorities and the Mas'terton Branch had marred tho success of the trip.. The committee, after carefully going through the correspondence, passed a resolution regretting tho misunderstanding, and entirely exonerating Mr. Palmer from any blame in the matter. It was noted with regret that Commander .. Crutchley had decided to relinquish the position of general secretary of the league at headquai'ters.' It was intimated by Mr. Palmer that, at the suggestion of the Otago Branch secretary, he was in communication with the other branch secretaries in the Dominion with a view of making a presentation to Commissioner Crutchley of some souvenir of New Zealand as from the hon. secretaries. A largo quantity of correspondence was submitted, and the secretary's action therein approved. Accounts were passed for payment aggregating A'7B 18s., including exnenses of Town Hall entertainment (.£22 6s. Gd.), and remittances to London for periodicals supplied to subscribers (,£23), books for schools and rimes (£l9 25.), and wall maps (£l3 2s. 6d.).
