At -.start;: all went off together except Tdrna, who hung back slightly. After •gqiirg"; tyfb furlongs L-eahora was-crowded 'badly, and fell, bringing down Vibration, •Morry ■ Frank, and Embrocation in that order.: Luckily, except for a'severe shak- . ingi. lio'no' of the boys were hurt. Lord PoSsiWe :.and Longwo'od were now ■ infront '.of. the remainder, and ■' tha-'!ormeTi-aa&ted loiig enough to win by a neck. ißfitish.'.-Maid^.was, clear 'of .'Succession, whoso'/Chance'Svas spoilt by tho accident. Genr:ral ; iurptlse' was expressed'wheii''if. was-known, that the stewards did not intend-to take steps to ascertain what Iha'd caused tho'-acciderit. The.Second Hurdles was supposed to be such;a certainty for Captain that the owners '■ of Merry Lawn, and To Whetu preferred.to.withdraw their horses. The "cdrtaihty" had every chance, but ho was.'-, simply not good enough, and never 3opked:,like .winning at any stage.against. fiyil,. who is a greatly improved horse, oth tho-first and second horses jumped well. Millennial again ran up to form, and beat.tho same lot as she did yestertld}-,-;- Seaworthy fell at the first fence. ■Most p'eoplo present yesterday noticed that, with an unfashionable jockey up, a good race, ,and, consequently,: it was not surprising to see this - fine-looking •. horso favourite in tho Ruahihe'Welter Handicap to-day. He got' -we 11.,: away, but Tho Rover worried him alt the way,, and,' over the last furlong, his big weight told its tale, and The Rover ran in an easy winner. San Lass; Canio . from a long-way back and get second place, and Allurement rah well enough to suggest that she will win-shortly. The favourite was fourth. The displays' of Stevens- and Composed were ..not so good as "was expected. Therewere two catastrophes in the big handicap. , Notorious broke his fetlock arid 'had' to bo destroyed, and Moloch .broke, a blood-vessel, and could, not finish. ' It ( -:is more than likely that no further attempt will bo made to train liim. . Highden,. with Deeley up, was made favourite',:'and he won. comfortably. Mataari; and Separator made the pace very Btrpngly.in the .'early part o£ the race, bttt'vat, the business end the favourite moved-up and half-way down the-straight he": took." charge, winning . comfortably. Lady Moutoa was made favourite in the Telegraph Hack Race. Deploy, on the Tails, began smartest, and led throughout; At the turn Lady Moutoa ran into second : place, but the weight stopped her, and Magneto ,beat her for second hotmurs. l

The field gave a lot of trouble in the Open : Handicap for sprinters. Naumai and "War Song broke through, and whipped round repeatedly. A good start was eventually obtained,'and Naumai 1 took charge from War Song and Tigerene. The black iorse ■■ led into tho straight, and won comfortably by a,'length. A poor third. The. Scurry was a really good betting race, . seyeral of .the runners being -well supported. Soultiform finished up a verv lot. favourite, and ho won comfortably from' the little-fancied Wild Lupin.. - The concluding event—the High Weight handicap brought-out a big field of fifteen.,. .The start, was effected, on a bend, and. .some -of' the horses gave a lot of trouble; ; Eventually. Mataari and Shannon- Lass were left at the post, and returned to : the, paddock. Any chanco which First Consul, who was favourite, might have had, was extinguished by his being badly-.left. Queen of' Scots showed up for-six, furlongs, with Ariom, Idealism, Toanga;.andjVaipunui at tho. head of the others. Waipuhui finished well, and scored with a little to spare from Ideal? ism-who was allowed to pay a big price for second' place, his backers getting halfas much'again as those investing on the wither, who was unlucky to get beaten at! Carterton.
