UNSATISFACTORY CONDITIONS IN ' AUSTRALIA. By Telecraph—Press Association-OooyriEht. (Rec. December 8, 10.5 p.m.) i . ' . London, December 8. At a special meeting of the British Women's Immigration Association, the Hon. Mrs. Joyce presiding, tho methods of dispatching girl emigrants to Australia and their treatment on arrival were discussed. ■ ~ It was stated that no proper emigrants' homes were provided in ; New South Wales, West Australia, and Queensland, and that the arrangements aboard many vessels were not good. • In many cases the girls were landed friendless and unprotected. ■ . The meeting resolved to bring definite cases before the Agent-Generals. Victorian conditions were not mentioned. New Zealand was commended for its excellent arrangements.
