THUNDER AND LIGHTNING.
. ALSO A WATERSPOUT. .;,..-., (Byi Telegraph.—Press'Association'.) ' Dunedin, December 7. Shortly after two o'clock this afternoon a heavy thunderstorm burst over the city. •'■ It came up suddenly from the south-west, after an intensely hot morning, and there was a torrential downpour for twenty miuutes, followed by two or three hours' lighter rain, which should do a vast amount of good to the" parched country. At Waipori, where the city hydro-electric power station is situated, tkoro was something in ths nature, of a waterspout, which did considerable damage to the roads, etc. Persistent lightning interfered seriously with the electric i system, and the supply of current to tho city was interrupted on five different occasions, owing to insulators on the transmission line being Smashed. The longest interruptions were an hour and a half, and an hour; The tramway system was frequently brought to a standstill until repairs were effected, and manufacturing firms using the electrical energy . were also seriously interrupted.
