Father Bannon, Superior of the, Redemptorist Order; the Rev. F. Lynch, Rector of Waratah, formerly in Dunedin; and the Rev. Fathers O'Farrell and Hunt, urrived'by Hie Manuka from Sydney yesterday. Morris, Inspector of Sayings Banks, returned from a holiday trip to Australia by the Manuka yesterday. Miss F. Grant, tho Wanganui Education Board's copkery instructor for the southern district, has resigned her position to take up the post of cookery instructor at the Dunedin Technical School, to which she was appointed at last meeting of the board of directors. Miss Grant assumes her new duties on February 1. Mr. E. W. G. .Poulton, private secretary to tho Hon. Dr. Findlav, will make the trip to England with the AttorneyGeneral. ' .• A settler of 1811—Mr. Frederick France —died at his residence, Belmont, yesterday morning. Mr. France came out to New Zealand in the ship Lady Nugent, and was for sixteen years associated with the signal-station staff located at Mount Victoria; afterwards he took up farming pursuits in the : Manawatu. Deceased, who leaves a widow and one brother (Mr. Richard France, of Wadestown), has resided at Belmont for ten years. t Mr. David Crewe, of Masterton, _ who leaves in a few days' time on a trip to tho Old Country; has tendered his resignation as a member of tho Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. Mrs. T. Dwan, who has been visiting relatives in. South , Africa, arrived here by tho Manuka yesterday. Mr. R. Walker, of the Public Works Department's engineering staff, has been elected an associate,member of tho Institution of Mechanical Engineers. This institution was established in ISM, and. its first president was the celebrated engineer, George StepUensoiii Mr. R. Walker is a New Zealander.
