Christchurch, December G-: Regarding the causes which have led to the postponement of the big gun practice of the Lyttelton Navals, it is now understood tliat, two years ago, the officer commanding the Canterbury district, respected a wish expressed to him personally by the vice-admiral that no firing should take place- whilst the flagship was lying in the fairway. The conditions not having changed in the interim, the officer in charge of the. Canterbury district fol. lowed the same procedure on the present occasion. :•' The company will be given .four days ■extra camp allowance in order to permit their annual class firing ' to' be carried out. In future an effort will be made'to fix the date of the company's camp so as not to clash.with the visit of the flagship Warships of lighter draught than the Powerful can, of course, come up the harbour away from the firing zone.
