The directors of the 'Wnirarapu Caledonian Society met on Saturday, when it was decided flint the handioiippcrs for the Amateur Athletic Club should handicap the amateur events. The stewards ef the Masterton Hacing Club met on Saturd.iv. The treasurer reported a debit balance at ths bank of Ji2iG 4s. Id., and accounts amounting to £159 15s. were passed for payment. The Programme C'ommilteo was authorised to allot .£IOOO for the autumn meeting, this being a reduction of .£250 upon the amount given in stakes at the last autumn meeting. It was decided that tho programme comprise seven instead of eight events each day, and a suggestion was made that the Hurdle events be eliminated. A loiter was read froni Mr. J. A. Coogan, who is now ill Australia, asking that his name be , removed from the list of disqualifications in connection with tho Ethel "ringiiig-in" case. The stewards decided to consider the matter at a later meeting." The I'limmer-Denniston C6mpany gave two performances in the Town Hall last week. Both were highly appreciated, "Lover's Lane" being pronounced one of the best dramas ever produced in the district. At a meeting of the Wellington branch of the Shearers' Union, held here on Saturday night, tho resignation.of Mr. E. W. Abbott as secretary was received, and a resolution was passed endorsing the action of .the extraordinary meeting of the Shearers' Federation recently held iii Christchurch.'-. The proposal to' establish bacon-curing works in connection with the Waingawa meat works is meeting with generous support in the Forty-Mile Bush. It is anticipated that very little trouble will be. experienced iu procuring the necessary capital. Another stretch of dry weather has been experienced in this district.
