Wedding at Soatoun. 1( . A very pretty wedding was celebrated in the Anglican Church at Seatoun on Thursday, when . Miss . Elsie liowena .Vance, only daughter of Mr. R. B. Vance, was married to Mr. Leonard Reginald Barber, second son of Mr. \V. •H; P. Barber, of Newtown. The ceremony Was performed by the Bev. G. H. Blackburn, and.the church was artistically decorated with Christmas lilies. ■The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a handsome gown of cream., surah silk, beautifully braided, and the customary veil and wreath of orange blossoms. She . carried a beautiful shower bouquet of cream roses and maidenhair fern. . Hor cousin, Miss Violet Tacon, from Christchurch, and Miss Wright (Seatoun) attended her as bridesmaids, Miss Tacon wearing a dress of pale heliotrope chiffon talfetas silk, and .Miss Wright pale blue . taffetas. Both woro pretty hats to match, and carried bouquets, of shaded heliotrope and cream sweet peas. Mr. Ernest Vance, brother of tho bride, acted, as best man, and Mr. Dare Bridge carried out the duties of groomsman. The. present to the bride was an emerald and diamond ring, and to the bridesmaids a gold cable banglo and a pearl SDray brooch respectively. Miss Delia Heath played the Wedding March at the conclusion of tho ceremony. A large number of guests were afterwards entertained at the residence of tho bride's parents, among those present being; Mrs. W. J. Day (Palmerston North), Mrs. A. W. Barber, Mrs. G. Rathbone Pearse (Trentham), Mrs. Lowins (Upper Hutt), Mrs. C. E: Luxford, Mrs. C. Hawson, Mrs. Wing, Misa Barker, : Miss Farquliar, and Messrs. W. H. P. Barber, Tacon, Brown, Wing, Day, Luxford.

Children's, Entertainment. A very happy gathering of children c and'their friends was held'in Marshall's J Tea Rooms, Karaka Bay, on Wednesday evening, tho occasion being the breaking up for'the Christmas holidays of Miss Shaw's Kindergarten School. The children gave a programme. of songs and dances, performing theni in . a . charming manner. A pretty fan dance was given by Miss Clarice Blair, Miss Marjory Morton, and. Masters Stanley •' Paul and Grenville Hume. Mrs. Stewart' j contributed a song, and Mr. Sealoy a c recitation' A Christmas tree was pro-' 1 vided by Miss Shaw,; laden .with toys, which were distributed by Mr. A. E. „ Mabin. In the courso 'of • the evening \ Miss Shaw was presented by Miss Clarice Blair, on behalf of the small pupils, with a handsome silver epergne as a token of their appreciation of her kindness and care of them. ■ Dancing then . took place for an hour'or two, j bringing a very enjoyablo evening to a ; close. Among those present were Mr. < and Mrs. Mabin, Mr. and Mrs. Hume, 1 Mr, and Mrs.. F. The monthly meeting of the Society •' for the. Protection of the Health of ■ Women and Children was held in tho rooms of the society on Friday afternoon, Mrs. A R. Atkinson presiding. Tho members of tho committee present were Mesdames Winder, M'Lean, AY. F. Ward, Leckic, M'Vicar, and Miss ! Barnett. Accounts amounting to £10 3s.'7d. were'passed for payment. A.. good deal of business was transacted, and the nurse's report was very satisfactory. In a quiet way the. guild docs a great deal of good, arid is a branch of the Mother Guild : at Homo. During the year each member docs her best to chcer and help the sick and poor by visiting' and sending' letters and postcards to show that someone at least is . thinking of them. At Christmas timo they hold a Christmas. treo and party for children in tho guild room, and try to get as many present as possible. Jlembers meet every Monday ovening and sew, and cach ! one contributes something towards the expenses. It is hoped that thoro will bo a good attendance this afternoon, as every little helps in bringing some brightness into lives that are not otherwise too gay. W.C.T.Ii, An enjoyable afternoon was given by the members of the Yv'.C.T.U. on Tuesday in tho Congregational School-room, G'ourtenay Place,.when Dr> Platts-Mills gave a most ; interesting and instructive address. A.number of little ones were also dedicated to the cause of temperance.

Yesterday afternoon Miss Seddon entertained a number of her friends at ail afternoon tea, given for Miss Eileen 'Webster; who is at present her guest. '

Miss Eileen Chaffey. arrived ■by the Ulilriaroa, from Australia, yesterday and is staying with her sister-in-law, Mrs. Jjeslio Chaifoy. '

A garden party in aid of the funds of tho Rosencath School will bo held in the Roseneath tennis enclosure this afternoon from half-past two till six o'clock. Therd will be fortune-telling, dancing, , songs, and other forms of amusement. Afternoon tea will,. of course, bo provided.

On Monday last at Auckland the death took place, of Mrs. Howe, mother of Dr. Howe (New Plymouth), and sister of Mr. James Livington, of-Hawera. < Mrs. Hine and her ; family leave Wellington to-day for their home in Toko. ■ The Hon.
