"There'were 38 teachers . ; . present-, Mr. I'ennant <presiding: •'•.; principal business of-the meeting "was ' ■ ah address by Mr. Fleming (Chief; In-' ' : -i spector), explaining the 'questions dealt'-A-iVi; ■ with it the .Secondary' School Teachers' V.-V 1 Conference, and, at .the Inspectors' Con-. V ' ' ference held some time ago. Mr. Flem- V : ' ing also explained fnlly thc importance . l j of Technical Education, stating that it . ■ ' should'be regarded as tho hand-maid : of a preparatory education. He also ■ was in favour "of the present system of _ ■ outside examination, being '. - with, and the amount of money at pre- ■ sent 'expended in inspectors' -..'salaries ■ being: made available to bring '.back- ' ' > blocks, children, into touch with.', tech-; ; ; J nical colleges. At tho conclusion of his ' 1 -address, Mr. Fleming was' accorded j a - ;' 5 hearty vote of thanks. The matter .of making a contribution to the Teachers' • Benevolent Fund was'considered, many -:':p > being in favour of holding a "self-denial" week among teachers in -order to'.mate •, ■ a collection. Several teachers expressed 1 ignorance of the real, object of the fund, 1 and further .'consideration'', was 'post- ■; 1 poned until the next annual meeting.
