,The Marine Department advise that the state-of tho weather at Cape Palliser will bo published daily ! at 9 a.m. from ' the . Government Meteorological Offico, along, with tho various other reports from stations throughout New Zealand. The instruments have already been installed, and the first report camo to band on December 1.
"Wliilo the early train was leaving Ngaio for the city yesterday, . a .lad named Haggett, in attempting to board the train, missed his footing and fell between tho carriages and the platform. Seeing tho. occurrence, tho driver of the locomotive (D. Nickless) promptly brought tho train to a standstill, and when tho lad was picked up he was found to bo uninjured.
At a lato hour last night a pedestrian in Hajoribanks Street, becoming uncertain as to his whereabouts, entered tho gato of a private residence with tho object of making an inquiry. Proceeding carefully along tho walk, praying that tho sleep of tho domestic watchdog was, that night, a sound one, he was somewhat surprised to seo a dishevelled individual making across tho lawn with more haste than tho occasion seemed to warrant'. When overtaken and asked whether lio "lived here," tho man, .in a very agitated manner, niado tho ambiguous statement that "ho had been only seeing a friend," and thereupon disappeared headlong through tho open gate. Tho inmates of tho house, when arou6ed, professed entire ignorance of tho presence of any of their friends, and, after promising, to "keep, their eyes open," directed tho inquirer homewards.
Mr. M. Cable, Assistant Tramways Engineer, and Councillors Frost and Smith' (delegates of the Wellington Corporation to the Tramways Conference, which openg hero on December 8) left by the Main Trunk express yesterday for 1 Auckland, whero they will inquire into tho workiug details of the local tramway system. Messrs. Cable, Frost, and Smith have just returned from a similar expedition to the South Island. The Tramways Committee of the Wellington Corporation considered it advisable that the delegates should visit the different tramway centres in order to obtain at first hand a knowledge of the lines on which each system is conducted.
At the Mount Cook Police Court yesterday morining, beforo Mr. Coogan, J.P., Samuel Sparks, George Cowan, Neil Lamont, Henry Keogh, and James North, were all convicted and discharged for drunkenness.
John Adams, convicted of tlicft, James Jones, of assaulti and robbery, and Cecil Stanley Chaplin, detaining postal matter, will come beforo his Honour Mr. Justice Chapman this niorn'ing for sentence.

Early next year a system of highlevel reservoirs will lie ill operation which should, prove a great boon to residents in the' moro elevated portions of the city, 'l'lie reservoirs, three in number, will each liavo an approximate capacity.of 200,000 gallons. One of tliem, situate in the highest part of Roseneath, at an altitude nearly equal to that of Mount Victoria, has ; been, completed. It will serve the higher levels of Roseneath, and the more elevated portions of Hataitai. Water' from the city mains will bo pumped to tho reservoir from a pumping station 011 the Town Belt, near tho top of Hay Street. Pipes are now arriving for tho mains and for the reticulation of Roseneath, and the pumps are due to arrive shortly. Similar reservoirs are being constructed on tho Town Belt, south of Newtown Park, and at Wadestown. It is anticipated that the Roseneath reservoir will bo in full operation by February or March next, and the others a little later. The committee of tho Petone Western School have decided to throw in their lot with tlio Potone High School in the anuual picnic, to bo held on Saturday, December 10. A meeting of tho High School Committee was held last evening, when arrangements were made to ensure a successful day. The presentation of prizes in connection with the Wellington Technical School is to take place in St. Peter's Hall on Wednesday ovening next. The annual exhibition of students' work will bo held on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday next.
