LOCAL AND GENERAL.
The question as to whether the Government intend to subsidise money raised for public purposes in. honour of the Coronation of His Majesty was recently brought up by Mr. G. W. Russell in the House of Representatives. Ho said that ho believed that on the occasion of tho Coronation of his lato Majesty subsidies up to ,£2OO were granted on a £ for £ basis upon moneys raised for public purposes. In reply, the Prime Minister said that the Government would net similarly to what was clone on the last occasion by subsidising local bodies, and the necessary local authorities' indemnity similar to tho one in 1902 will be provided for in the Appropriation Bill this session.
"When is it proposed to start tho works necessary i'or the national train-ing-camp on Waimarino Plains?"- This was a question which Mr. Jennings, M.P. Tauraarunui, recently asked the Government. In the House yesterday Sir Joseph Ward said: "Plans and particulars of works on training grounds havo been applied for from the War Office. On receipt of such information tho whole matter is to be gono into with a view of equipping the grounds in as up-to-dato a manner as possible, suited to our requirements."
