STRANGERS IN THE CHAMBER.
AN INCIDENT IN PARLIAMENT.
While tho Mining Amendment Bill was befoTe the House of Representatives last night Mr. Ross (Pahiatua) suddenly rasa in his seat and objected to representatives of employers sitting in tho Chamber and discussing the Bill with those responsible for the drafting of it—he referred to the Departmental officers. When that sort of thing was allowed to go .on in tho Chamber _ it' was futile sending members to Parliament. ' All that would ,■ bo required would be to send representatives of the various factions. Mr. T. E. Taylor- (Christchurch. North) said a very important point had been raised in referring to tho growth of the practice of lobbying on behalf of corporations that did not represent tho general public. Ho did not know what was taking place, but the inference seemed to bo that certain persons were using inlluence on behalf of mining corporations. .'...' Tho Hon. R. M'Kenzio Minister for Mines), who was in charge of th< Bill, said ho was nt a loss to understand the innuendo. . He could assuM the Houso that when anyone endeavour* e<l to influenco him in respect to tioii that lie (Mr. M'Kenzio) thought was desirable in the. interests of the peoplo he was likely to defeat his owe ■object. ■-■.-■ ■.'■:'■'■.■•
