SHOCKING CHRISTCHURCH CASE.
(By T«le E raph.-Pres3 Association.! Christchurch, November 29. borne shocking features were present in the case or a 'man who was arrested for vagrancy in Hagley Park this morning. A constable was on his way to the city when ho .happened to notice a man who had been irequentmg. tho park for tho past three weeks. His conmtion could only be described as filthy in the extreme.' The man, whose name is Jos. Scott, has been making, a habit of sleeping in the park for some weeks past, his couch beiii" und cr the frees near Victoria Lake" \Yhen found ho was blackened with dirt and grime, and could hardly be recognised as a human being.' Neither the man nor his clothes could have made acquaintance with soap and water for months past. To put it plainly he was almost unapproachable. The police officer to whom it foil to take charge, of Scott at the Po\ico Station, had a most unpleasant task, for .every stitch of the man's clothing had to bo removed aud burned. Scott was then taken out into the ODen and washed with a strong solution" of water and Jeyes'. fluid. Tho officer used a soft long-handled mop which lie dipped into a bucket and then applied to tho man's body. This was followed up by several buckets of a milder solution of the same sort, and finally, by some buckets of pure water.
