: THE OUTPUT ESTIMATED.* Cheering' . news concerning the Hawk'e's Bay fruit crop came .to hand by last night's mail.. ~ . ; .■■ ' ... On October 18 a heavy frost occurred in'the .'district, and despite the efforts, 1 of the; growers'there were great losses in the' orchards. -.-At the time it was estimated that'the damago was. between' £20,000 and .£30,000, and it was reckoned that the Hawke's Bay fruit output this year would be insignificant. .If was, however,"explained in The Domdjion's " account of the disaster that the whole district had not been smitten, and that, some localities had escaped. .: ■'■:".:■:, .". ,'r.. ■..'.. .' ■■'.-> '•'"'.'. ■ -.."" ;vThe ."Hastings Standard" states that a;member''of. its;staff has visited orchards and inquired into the matter, and has found that thero will bo a considerable' quantity' of fruit available for marketing: ; "Tho orchards ' situated. close to; the Havolock Hills suffered little or no damage. •. ■."". . A rough estimate of-the yield from'/the' district including Hastings, Havelock, Clive, Meatiee',. Greenmeadows, and' Mangais about 40,000 cases, made up. approximately as follows:—20,000 stono fruit,; 13,000 pip, and the balance in raspberries; currants, and gooseberries. In. addition it is estimated that the tomato output will bo from three to four thousand-cases. ; - Last year the total number of cases of fruit handled by tho fruitgrowers' Company was 66,000."
